How it compares to cloud object storage
Cloud object storage bills for storage, every API request, and every byte of egress — with no latency SLA beyond the internet round-trip. SeaweedFS Enterprise is a flat per-TB software license with no request fees and no egress fees, running on your own hardware at local-network speed.
| Provider | Storage / TB / month | API requests | Egress to internet | Model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon S3 (Standard) | ~$23 | $0.005 / 1k write · $0.0004 / 1k read | $0.09 / GB | Fully managed |
| Azure Blob (Hot) | ~$18 | Metered per operation | $0.087 / GB | Fully managed |
| Google Cloud Storage (Standard) | ~$20 | Metered per operation | $0.12 / GB | Fully managed |
| Backblaze B2 | ~$6 | Metered (free daily cap) | Free to 3× storage, then $0.01 / GB | Fully managed |
| SeaweedFS Enterprise | $2 (license) | Unlimited | $0 | Self-hosted, your hardware |
Example: 1 PB for a year
| Storage for 1 PB / year | Plus egress | |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon S3 (Standard) | ~$259,000 | + $0.09 / GB on everything you read out |
| SeaweedFS Enterprise | ~$24,000 license | $0 — on hardware you own and keep |
A flat license on commodity hardware — with no egress or request meter — is roughly 10× less than hot cloud object storage at scale, before you count a single API call or byte of egress, and your data never leaves your control.
Cloud figures are public US-region list prices as of June 2026 (S3 Standard $0.023/GB blended across volume tiers, Azure Hot $0.018/GB, GCS Standard $0.020/GB), shown for reference; actual costs vary by region, tier, volume, and discount program. SeaweedFS Enterprise is a software license — hardware, compute, and network are provided by you. Licensed capacity counts used storage including replication/erasure-coding overhead, which customizable EC keeps as low as ~1.2× (the 1 PB example above includes that overhead).
How it works
1. Install SeaweedFS
Deploy your cluster following the deployment guide →
2. Find Your Cluster UUID
Open the Admin UI and go to the Dashboard page. Copy the Cluster UUID shown there.
3. Complete Payment
Choose your plan, adjust the required capacity (TB), and enter your Cluster UUID in the checkout form.
4. Receive License
We will generate your license file and invoice and send them to your email.
Note: Less than 25TB is free for development and testing — no license required. Production deployments require a paid license regardless of size. When calculating used storage, all replicated data is included (e.g. logical size 10TB with 2x replication counts as 20TB).
